GAIA Travel Grant

Background:

The Gaia Travel Grant, established in 2009, supports LAEP students seeking assistance to advance their understanding of our earth and ways landscape architecture can shape it. The grant is made possible through the generous contributions of alumnae women whose memorable travel experiences have shaped their careers. The grant is intended to enable travel associated with thesis development, independent research, and/or exploration of influential landscapes domestically and internationally.

Selection:

Grant allocation is competitive, however selection priority being given to:
• currently enrolled LAEP female students
• currently enrolled LAEP  minority students

Applicants will supply a 1 - 2 page proposal describing their personal statement, focus of study, travel plans (incl. dates, locations, approx. costs), and expected learning outcomes. Applications will be evaluated based upon, and proposal should address:
• purpose of travel
• financial need
• demonstrated commitment to the profession

The successful applicant will provide the following deliverables:

  1. Personal note to donors.
  2. Presentation to LAEP students and faculty
    • coordinated and announced by the applicant (not less than 2 weeks prior to presentation)
    • occurring in the semester during which the travel occurs
    • digital copy of presentation to be provided to the donors
  3. Provide written correspondence with donors sharing experiences and products made possible through travels supported by the scholarship.
    • by the end of the funding period.
  4. Provide an article for LAEP’s InSites newsletter sharing experiences and products made possible through travels supported by the scholarship.
    • by the end of the funding period.
